Rise in celebrity snaps at press photography awards

A Scottish press photography awards has seen a hike in entries of snapshots of the rich and famous.

A total of 320 entries – an increase of 23 per cent – have been submitted to the Celebrity Picture category of the First ScotRail Press Photography Awards.

Among the icons featured are actor Samuel L Jackson, footballer Ronaldinho and Coldplay singer Chris Martin.

Almost 3,000 photographs from over 200 photographers across Scotland have been submitted pictures for the 14 categories.

Mary Dickson, managing director of award sponsors First ScotRail, said: "We're pleased that so many top photographers have taken the time to enter.

"Competition is tough – it's going to be difficult to choose the winners."

The shortlist will be announced later this month, with the awards ceremony to be held in Glasgow at the end of March.
