Sub-editor is remembered with new Mail award

The Birmingham Mail has set up an award in memory of its former sub-editor Geoff Fielding, who died earlier this year.

The Geoff Fielding Memorial Trophy has been created to honour editorial staff who make an outstanding contribution to the paper, and the inaugural award has gone to chief reporter Emma Cullwick.

Geoff lost his battle with cancer aged 60, after more than 30 years working for the Birmingham Post & Mail and its associated businesses.

He first joined the company as a compositor printer, but as the newspaper industry underwent technological changes with the introduction of computers, he retrained as a journalist.
