Yorkshire Post journalist Conal Gregory has won a top award from the British Insurance Brokers' Association.
He was named Regional Journalist of the Year and scooped £750, going one better than at last year's event when he was highly commended in the same category.
Judges praised his article 'how to prevent that winter sports break going downhill', saying it was easy to read, well-researched and made the subject 'real' for readers.
They added: "More importantly, it contains very relevant insurance advice for those intending to take winter sports holidays.
"Conal has done his research, mentioning a number of insurers and the variations in cover which is available, together with practical and down to earth advice from the moment travellers begin their journey to what to do if they are unfortunate enough to need to make a claim."
Lindsey Rogerson from Scotland on Sunday was highly commended in the same category.
She received £150 after impressing judges with an article about flood insurance.
The awards recognise journalists who have used their work to further understanding of insurance issues, with more than 100 entries received over eight categories.
BIBA chief executive Eric Galbraith said: "As well as looking at the originality and style of writing, and the quality of related research or investigatory work, our judges have been asked to identify the journalists that raised awareness of general insurance subjects through their work and provided an insight into general insurance issues.
"I commend all those shortlisted for providing a valuable service to the British consumer and the insurance sector, and would like to congratulate the winners on their fantastic and well deserved achievement."
Other winners included James Daley from the The Independent and John Husband from the Daily Mirror, who received the Consumer Broadsheet and Consumer Tabloid awards respectively.
