News staff recognised in North Wales awards

The Oswestry & Border Counties Advertizer has been judged best paid-for title in the North Wales Newspapers annual awards.

The Advertizer beat off strong challenges from the Wrexham Evening Leader, Powys County Times and Denbighshire Free Press to scoop the award for the first time.

Joint awards in the Free Newspaper of the Year section went to the Rhyl Journal and North Wales Pioneer.

The Evening Leader cleaned up most of the journalistic awards. Stefan Jarmolowicz was judged Reporter of the Year and sports editor Nick Harrison picked up the Sports Reporter Of The Year Award.

Trainee photographer Jane Widdowson was judged Photographer of the Year with the Leader also collecting Front Page of the Year.

The Leader also collected the award for Campaign of the Year for its fight to save the name of the Royal Welch Fusiliers.

The Powys County Times won Website of the Year for its 'through-the-night' coverage of the General Election.
