Regional newspapers from across the UK have been recognised for their support of the RNLI.

The charity, which rescues an average of 21 people from the sea every day, has handed out media supports awards to the Caithness Courier, Dundee Courier, The Visitor in Morcambe, the Eastern Daily Press, South London Press, East Anglian Daily Times, Eas Kent Mecury/Dover Mercury, The News in Portsmouth and the Daily Post in North Wales.

Each title has been recognised for its supportive coverage of the charity, with the Eastern Daily Press singled out its "pro-lifeboat" stance and a number of high profile stories highlighting Cromer's 200th anniversary celebrations, including the tale of the crew who took to sea in their dinner jackets when they got a 'shout' at the end of their anniversary dinner.

The East Anglian Daily Times was praised as a "staunch supporter" of the RNLI, with more coverage of lifeboat stories than any other newspaper in its region, and the South London Press was thanked for giving coverage to some unusual rescues at Tower Piers.

Both The Visitor at Morcambe and the Daily Post in North Wales picked up their awards for their active support of the RNLI over a number of years, including The Visitor's Home for the Hover appeal.

Danielle Rush, RNLI divisional media relations manager, said of the Daily Post: "Rarely a day goes by when the Daily Post fails to mention one of the many rescues carried out in the West Division, helping to raise our profile as well as much needed funds."
