Jacob Mukherjee of Nouse, York Vision's rival newspaper at the same university, completed York's triumphant evening by winning the student diversity writer category.

Other big winners this year included ISIS, Oxford University's student publication, which won Student Magazine of the Year, and Ruaridh Arrow from the University of Glasgow's Glasgow University Guardian, who scooped the award for Sky News Reporter of the Year.

Thomas Whipple from the University of Cambridge's The Cambridge Student also picked up the prize for Student Feature Writer of the Year for the second year running, and Esther Teichmann from the Royal College of Art was named Student Photographer of the Year.

Now in their 26th year, the awards recognise and reward the very best student journalists, editors and photographers with prizes that include cash, work experience at the Guardian, European flights from easyJet and a six-week work placement with Sky News.
