Chance for weeklies to showcase their success

Weekly newspaper staff from across the country are being invited to show off their talents at an event organised by the Newspaper Society.

The industry group is calling for entries for its prestigious Weekly Newspaper Awards, which are this year set to be held at the Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel, near Coventry, on November 17.

The event will see 34 prizes handed out for the best of the best in advertising and editorial from paid-for and free newspapers in the past year.

Among the awards up for grabs are best news journalist, best feature journalist and best photographer.

The competition also offers newspapers the opportunity to compete with other titles in their region, with prizes for the best paid-for and free papers in the south east; Wales and the south west; the Midlands and eastern region; the north and Yorkshire; Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The closing date for entries is Friday, October 1.

For more information and to enter, go to www.newspapersoc.org.uk.
