Hard-working trainees are rewarded

Eastern Daily Press journalist James Goffin has been awarded the Archant Norfolk Albert Holroyd Award for the Trainee Journalist of the Year.

The award is made annually to the division's outstanding trainee journalist, which this year went to James, who is now a senior journalist and the paper's deputy chief reporter at its Dereham office.

  • He was presented with a certificate and £150 by Norfolk managing director Barry Dennis.

    Albert Holroyd was a former editor of the Norfolk weekly series of newspapers and his daughter, Elaine, a reporter on the Yarmouth Mercury, set up the memorial shortly after his death.

    During the ceremony Eastern Daily Press junior reporter Maria Fulcher and junior sports reporter Paddy Davitt also received certificates for achieveing the NVQ qualification in Newspaper Writing.
