The Shropshire Star has won a national award in recognition of the quality of its colour printing.

The newspaper's production team was presented with the Roy Thomas Trophy by the Goss Users Association after submitting three pages which showed off its colour reproduction capabilities.

These included its front page coverage of a fire at Donnington in Telford and a spread of autumn countryside pictures, which demonstrated the power of the use of colour.

The award, which is open to any printing company that uses a Goss double-width press, is recognised as the printing industry's national standard.

Previous winners include the Star's sister paper, the Express and Star in Wolverhampton, and the Leicester Mercury.
