National prize for knowledge of newspaper law

York Evening Press reporter Catherine Bruce has scooped a national award for her outstanding work as a trainee journalist.

Catherine, (22), has received the Butterworths Law Prize for 2002.

The award is given every year for the best results in a law examination set by the National Council for the Training of Journalists.

She will be presented with a certificate and a cheque for £250 at the launch of the 17th edition of the journalists' legal bible, Essential Law for Journalists, on July 4 in London.

Evening Press assistant editor Chris Buxton said "We are delighted at Catherine's achievement."
