National prize for freelance writer

Freelance writer Ruth Sparkes scooped first prize in a national competition for her work on the the Cricklade College 2003/4 full time prospectus.

Her success came at the FE First Marketing Awards, which had record attendance and entries from Further Education colleges across the country.

Association of Colleges chief executive David Gibson, pictured above with Ruth, said: "I am so pleased to be awarding this prize to this particular college. This is a bold and exciting prospectus, clear with good use of past student profiles. It truly deserves to win."

Ruth Sparkes, who is also the college marketing co-ordinator, said: "The prospectus is quite unlike anything the college has had before.

"We went back to the drawing board to identify our real target audience and we've produced something that prospective students would actually enjoy reading."

The prospectus was judged against strict criteria and all entries had to supply comprehensive support information detailing the aims, target audience, usage, and costs involved.

The total number of entries for the awards exceeded 200 and some 150 delegates attended the ceremony.
