Extra editorial awards added

Entries are now being sought for the 2003 Newspaper Sales and Promotions Awards, which now include six new categories.

The Newspaper Society, which organises the event, has chosen to expand the existing editorial award categories and they will now include awards for the Journalist and Young Journalist of the Year; Photographer of the Year; Regional Newspaper of the Year and Design and Layout of the Year.

In addition there will also be a prize for the newspaper deemed to have run the Best Local Newspaper Week Initiative.

Judges will be looking for a paper that took part in this year's event, which ran from June 24 to 30, and which made good use of the press pack and also produced original ideas; published creative, well-designed features or supplements and can show evidence of interest and support from readers.

The winners of those categories, plus 26 other sales, promotion and editorial awards, will be announced at the Newspaper Sales and Promotions Conference on March 24, 2003, at the Birmingham Metropole Hotel.

The awards are designed to recognise and reward the best newspaper sales initiatives, promotions ideas and editorial content within the UK regional press.

The deadline for entries is Friday, January 24.
