Racing award for former Telegraph man

A former Grimsby Telegraph columnist has picked up a national award.

Tom O'Ryan, who wrote a weekly racing column for the Telegraph in the late 1980s, has been voted Racing Journalist of the Year.

He received the award at a glittering luncheon at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, organised by the Horse Race Writers' Association.

As a former jockey, Tom took up racing journalism at the end of his career and one of his first commissions was a weekly column on the Telegraph.

He is now a staff writer on the Racing Post.
