The shortlist for the Guardian Student Media Awards 2002 has been announced.

Now in their 24th year, the awards recognise and reward the best student journalists, editors and photographers with the prizes being awarded in 13 categories.

An overall winner will also be chosen from the 13 category winners, who will undertake a six-week work placement at the Guardian and will also be given a £1,000 subsistence award for the duration of the placement.

The winners will be announced at the Guardian Student Media Conference on Wednesday, November 6, at the ICA in London.
