Euro-nomination for Holdthefrontpage

Holdthefrontpage has been shortlisted for the Best Overall Journalism Service in the 2002 European Online Journalism Awards.

Also vying for the award are BBC Radio 4's Today website and Guardian Unlimited.

The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on July 4.

The EOJ Awards is an annual programme to recognise and reward excellence in online journalism.

The awards themselves focus on the practice of telling good stories using digital tools and techniques in an online medium.

HoldTheFrontPage has gone from strength to strength since it was launched in February 2000 and currently generates up to 100,000 page impressions a week.

As well as providing a news service about the industry it is also a resource for working journalists with a searchable database of tricky terms they may come across at work, a 230-strong index of freelance writers and photographers, reviews of websites and the popular vacancies section.

Editor Patrick Astill said: "This is good news for everyone involved in bringing Holdthefrontpage to journalists all over the UK.

"It is a vote of confidence in how we are regarded in the industry and shows we are moving in the right direction."
