Ali shortlisted for top award

Southern Daily Echo chief feature writer Ali Kefford has been shortlisted for a prestigious award for her role as the paper's naval correspondent.

She's reached the final ten entries in the Desmond Wettern Maritime MediaAward for the second successive year.

The accolade was for her features on the Type 42 destroyer HMS Southampton, currently part of Operation Veritas supporting the international fleet in the Arabian Sea.

Ali, (32), spent three weeks on board the ship last year on a tour of the South Atlantic.

She has been at the Daily Echo in Southampton for more than two years afterjoining from fellow Newsquest paper, the Hampshire Chronicle.
