John wins at the double

Journalist John Swift has won awards for both his writing and driving skills at a major awards ceremony for motor journalism.

John, motoring correspondent for the Stoke Sentinel, was named Regional Journalist of the Year at the recent Guild of Motoring Writers annual dinner at the RAC Club in London.

He also retained the Lord Rootes Gold Cup for his "outstanding achievement in the field of motorsport".

It is the first time since the guild was set up in 1944 that a member has won both its journalism and competition categories in the same year.

John, an experienced racing driver, said: "I am absolutely delighted to win these awards."
