Journalists from the Irish Times are among those who have been honoured at an awards ceremony in Dublin.

Twenty-eight journalists from print, radio and television were recognised at the ESB National Media Awards at the Mansion House, Dublin.

Writers from the Irish Times won three awards, including Seán MacConnell, the newspaper's agriculture correspondent. He was named News and Current Affairs journalist of the year in the print category for his coverage of the foot-and-mouth crisis.

Maev-Ann Wren, also from the Irish Times, won the Analysis and Comment category for her series on the health service, 'Unhealthy State', while Eileen Battersby was named Arts Journalist of the Year, for the third time, for her work as the paper's literary correspondent.

The award for Print Journalist of the Year went to Miriam Lord of the Irish Independent, while Carl O'Brien of the Irish Examiner was named Young Journalist of the Year.

Other awards in the print category included Social and Campaigning issues, which went to Jody Corcoran of the Sunday Independent and Fergal Bowers, editor of IrishHealth.Com, and Features, which was won by Niamh Kavanagh of the Irish Independent.
