Medal for former Courier sub

A former sub-editor of the Kent and Sussex Courier has been honoured.

Mike Granatt, (51), was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath for his work in the Government Information and Communication Service.

Mike joined the Courier as a sub-editor in 1973.

In 1979 he left newspapers to become a civil servant in the Department of Employment.

Since then he has worked as a press officer for the Home Office and as director of public affairs for the Metropolitan Police.

He is currently the professional head of around 1,100 Government information officers across 20 departments.

Speaking about the honour he said: "I was extremely surprised and rather proud."
