The Grimsby Telegraph "twister" front page has been voted as one of the best in Europe in the past 12 months.

The paper featured a dramatic picture of a tornado at Cleethorpes which caught the eye of judges in the prestigious European Newspaper Award.

The work was given an award of excellence in the front page section, where entries were submitted by editors of 86 newspapers in 21 countries.

The awards will be presented at the City Hall in Aachen, Germany, on February 2.

The Telegraph is listed among 13 titles in the section and is the only entry from Great Britain to win recognition.

Its dramatic front page was produced on August 21 and featured a picture of the 100ft-high twister taken by 17-year-old holidaymaker Stuart East, of Doncaster.

Stuart captured the dramatic scene on his digital camera.

Telegraph editor Peter Moore said: "The front page was one of the most dramatic we have produced and highlighted a remarkable event.

"We are delighted to hear about the award, which reflects a great team effort by all concerned."

The winning front pages will be exhibited for four weeks at the International Newspaper Museum in Aachen.
