Have you ever penned a gardening column? Or specialised in taking photos to illustrate your garden writer's words?
There's a chance for you to emerge as a winner for the ninth annual Garden Writers' Guild Awards.
The Guild has also embraced electronic media in the call for entries.
In addition to the print and broadcasting categories for these 'Oscars' of the gardening communicators' profession, this year marks the début of the Gardening Web Site of the Year award in a move to recognise and encourage high standards of content in both old and new media.
Twelve other awards will be presented at the Garden Writers' Guild Awards Lunch which will be held at The Savoy in London on November 30, 2000.
The categories are:
- Inspirational Garden Journalist of the Year;
- Practical Garden Journalist of the Year;
- Garden Trade Journalist of the Year;
- Inspirational Gardening Book of the Year;
- Practical Gardening Book of the Year;
- Reference Gardening Book of the Year;
- Photographer of the Year;
- Features Photographer of the Year;
- Radio Broadcast of the Year;
- TV Broadcast of the Year;
- TV Broadcaster of the Year;
- Or the Guild's Lifetime Achievement Award.
All the awards are open to all professional communicators whether or not they are members of the Guild. Panels of expert judges decide all but the two last named awards which are based on a private poll of Guild members.
This year, the entry forms have been posted on the Guild's own web site at www.gardenwriters.co.uk together with the rules.
All nominated work must have been first published or broadcast between October 16, 1999 and October 6, 2000, the latter being also the closing date for entries.
Information about awards entries is available from Eric Crichton on 01258 837990 or via email.
