Online weekend sports show launched by Midlands newspaper firm

A new weekend-only up-to-the-minute sports section on www.expressandstar.com has been launched for fans of West Midlands football.

Sporting Star Live, which appears online at weekends, covers all the action from Wolves, West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa, Birmingham City and Walsall.

Video is at the centre of the operation, a version of the popular Saturday sports TV format used successfully on ITV's World of Sport and later with Sky Soccer Saturday.

Video bulletins feature latest team news, starting line-ups, half time and full time updates, as well as the thoughts of Express & Star reporters at the big games. They run alongside a text service featuring instant goals, sendings-off and penalties, fans' feedback and atmosphere from matches.

Visitors to Sporting Star Live also have the chance to leave their views before, during and after games.

Express & Star editor Adrian Faber said: "Sporting Star Live is a key part of delivering an entertaining, informative, up-to-the-minute service on our website."

The Express & Star is the largest selling regional evening newspaper, and its website expressandstar.com is referenced by more than 190,000 unique visitors a month.

Sporting Star Live is available at weekends only via sportingstar.co.uk or expressandstar.com/sport
