Centigrade is the old name for Celsius. The term 'Celsius' rather than 'Centigrade' has been used in British schools since the 1960s and is used for all official purposes in this country. The Celsius scale is named after the Swedish scientist Anders Celsius (1701-1744) who came up with the scale. Formula to convert fahrenheit temperature to centigrade: Degrees C = 5/9 x(Degrees F-32).
