The group editor of two sister dailies has been awarded an honorary doctorate for outstanding services to media.

Ian Savage, who is in charge of the Bolton News and Lancashire Telegraph, has received the honour from the University of Bolton.

Ian, left, was presented with the doctorate on the first day of this year’s degree congregation ceremonies held by the university.

The Earl of St Andrews, a cousing of the Queen and chncellor of the university, presided over the ceremony.

Said Ian: “I am extremely proud to receive this honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton.

“The honour means a lot to me, as it is my first degree at the age of 50.

“We are very lucky to have such a great university in the heart of our community.”
