Two sister dailies who share the same office will go head to head for a prestigious industry award.

The Yorkshire Post and the Yorkshire Evening Post are among seven on the shortlist for the newsawards Regional Daily Newspaper of the Year title.

The Johnston Press-owned dailies, which are both based on Whitehall Road, Leeds, face competition from the Eastern Daily Press, Irish News, Aberdeen’s Press & Journal and Dundee-based daily The Courier, as well as London’s Evening Standard.

Elsewhere, Iliffe Media title the Cambridge Independent, which launched in September, is up for the Weekly Newspaper of the Year crown alongside the Brecon & Radnor Express, Hackney Gazette, Newbury Weekly News, Newquay Voice, Stratford Herald and The Times of Tunbirdge Wells.

In the News Website of the Year category, the Belfast Telegraph faces national competition from titles including The Guardian, the Independent, the Daily Telegraph and Johnston Press-owned paper the i.

The Bel Tel’s Weekend publication is also nominated for the Regional Supplement/Magazine of the Year award.

The newsawards, formerly known as The Newspaper Awards, celebrate excellence in both print production and digital innovation.

The winners will be announced at a black tie gala dinner on 5 April and the London Lancaster.
