Has anyone actually thought this one through? Let’s say the appeal raises enough cash to fund a couple of reporters for a year, what are they going to do next year?
Perhaps t hey will put the journos on the streets with a begging bowl and a sign: “Wife, two children and an ailing newspaper to support. Please give generously”.
CN is a commercial organisation responsible for managing its own affairs and raising profits by selling its products in the marketplace. I have seen no evidence of them – in better days – donating some of their profits to their loyal readers.
Anyone who believes they can resurrect the regional press in this way, is, frankly, three picas off a nut.
