Regional publisher puts daily’s office up for sale

A regional publisher has put the office of one of its daily newspapers up for sale.

Johnston Press has confirmed the headquarters of The Star, in York Street, Sheffield, are now on the market after previously deeming the property “not up-to-scratch”.

Offers are being welcomed on the building, which currently houses are 400 staff and is also home of the weekly Sheffield Telegraph, until 17 March.

But JP says it could still opt to refurbish York Street, rather than looking for new premises in Sheffield.

A company spokesperson said: “We know that the office is not up to scratch and are currently looking at two options to ensure the team works in a comfortable environment that is fit for purpose.

“One option is to completely refurbish the office, the other is to relocate to new accommodation within Sheffield.

“In order to ascertain the feasibility of moving to new premises, we need to establish how easy it would be to sell the York Street property, hence the current marketing activity.

“No firm decisions have been made yet, we are simply putting out the feelers at this stage.”

They may do it up… but only to make it more flogable. They certainly wouldn’t do it for the benefit of any staff (the few that are left!).
