Regional daily newsdesk chief to edit travel magazine

Keeley-Knowles-1A regional daily assistant editor has left the paper after four years for a new challenge editing a leisure and travel magazine.

Keeley Rodgers, left, joined the Oxford Mail and Oxford Times as assistant news editor in 2013 after previously working at LSN Media in Bedford.

She has now become editor of Group Leisure & Travel magazine, along with its portfolio of print and online media, replacing Sarah Holt who has gone travelling.

Said Keeley: “The last four years in Oxford have been an incredible  adventure but the lure of making a difference in the growing field of travel magazines and websites was just too compelling. I have had the privilege of working with some very talented individuals and am looking forward to my next challenge.”

Publisher of Group Leisure & Travel, Rob Yandell added: “Keeley was appointed some time ago and we’re really looking forward to her joining the team and bringing her wealth of experience and new ideas to the magazine.

“I am confident we have found an editor who can not only retain our status as the leading magazine in its field, but further improve it for the benefit of both readers and advertisers.”

Other changes at the Newsquest-owned Mail have seen Hannah Somerville, who won the Young Journalist of the Year prize at last month’s Regional Press Awards, promoted to health reporter.

And reporter Matt Oliver has also left the paper after landing a job as a city reporter at Mail Online.

Other recent job moves in the UK regional media include the following:

* Rachel Wearmouth, who moved from Newcastle daily The Chronicle last year to become politics and investigations editor for the Sunday Post, is on the move again. Rachel has now joined HuffPost UK as a politics reporter.

* Adam Cornell has become news editor for the Maldon Standard, Halstead Gazette, and Braintree Times. He was previously crime reporter for Newsquest Essex sister titles the  Colchester Gazette and Essex County Standard.

* Laura Heads, previously a production journalist at ITV News West Country, has been made content editor.

* Jonny Drury has moved from the Powys County Times where he was chief news reporter to join the Shropshire Star as a reporter, focusing on news in Oswestry and Mid Wales.
