Regional daily bids farewell to home of almost 80 years

A regional daily has said goodbye to its home of almost 80 years for a new riverside base.

The Teesside Gazette left its Borough Road headquarters on Friday, and is now being produced from Hudson Quay, on the south bank of the River Tees.

The Borough Road offices have been purchased by Teesside University, which already owns the adjoining building.

Hudson Quay is located in the town’s “up and coming” Middlehaven district, and sits close to Middlesbrough Football Club’s Riverside Stadium home.

In a piece bidding farewell to Borough Road, the Gazette’s home for 78 years, senior journalist Dave Robson wrote: “We leave behind a building which has served us well – very well – and from whose bustling rooms we’ve reported every major news story from the Second World War onwards… and many minor ones come to that.”

He added: “We know our old place will be well looked after – but you don’t leave anywhere after 78 years without a tinge of sadness and a host of memories.

“Everyone who’s ever worked at Gazette Buildings will have their own – a few bad, maybe, but mainly good.

“The time has come, however, to turn the page and start a new chapter.”
