Publisher offers advice on how to make most out of digital

An independent publisher has been giving local businesses advice on how to make the most out of digital.

The Midland News Association held the event for businesses from across the Black Country and Staffordshire at the Express & Star offices, in Wolverhampton.

The event was led by managing director Andy Hill, and as part of proceedings guests were talked through the different packages the company’s MNA Digital arm offers, including web advertising, website design, video and search engine optimisation.

Following the event visitors were given a tour of the Express & Star newsroom, led by political editor Peter Madeley.

The event was hosted in conjunction with the Black Country Chamber of Commerce.

Said Andy: “It was a pleasure to welcome some many Chamber members to MNA Digital for our second workshop event. Everyone showed an interest in making the most of digital marketing platforms available to them.

“Following the workshop, which was a huge success, received positive feedback, which sets us in good light as we prepare to host similar sessions throughout the year.”

I may be wrong but isn’t this a ‘time share’ type sales pitch/ gathering where businesses are lured along by a tumbler of warm wine and a sausage roll while someone trots out a list of the publishers own web advertising options and packages no doubt with a sales rep or two preset to offer a card and arrange a follow up meeting with a special deal thrown in as a deal breaker?
I had the misfortune to attend something similar with a business owner friend of mine and it was merely a sales pitch dressed up as a ‘workshop’ culminating with a ‘hurry hurry! only a few heavily discounted packages available to those signing up on the day’ sales pitch

The fig roll biscuits were decent to be fair

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t MNA the PR wing of this very newspaper group?
If so it’s basically giving ‘independent ‘advice to local business people and business groups to advertise: and use the newspapers own publications and services.
A bit like someone throwing a brick through your window with a leaflet attached offering a window replacement service.

I wonder if any local business owner has been taken in by this type of thinly disguised sales pitch if this is what it is?
If selling adverts has been driven underground in this manner like it has at certain other regional press centres where similar year long disciubtboitches sre happening , other than being open and up front and selling the benefits of the papers or web sites themselves it signals one of the last distress flares being fired in a desperate attempt to get hold of any ad revenue it can get by any means possible.
Although I’m sure it’s not the case here…..
