Press watchdog issues “do’s and dont’s” guide to election reporting

John WhittingdaleA “do’s and dont’s” guide to election reporting has been published by the press watchdog.

The Independent Press Standards Organisation has drawn up the guide of frequently asked questions to aid journalists ahead of the General Election on 8 June.

The blog features pointers on whether newspapers are subject to “purdah” restrictions and whether IPSO members are allowed to campaign for political parties.

It also feautres cases studies involving complaints made against papers covering elections.

IPSO has also announced that its annual lecture has been postponed due to the election.

The talk will now be held on 6 July at 6pm.

It is due to be delivered by John Whittingdale, pictured above left, the former Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

The lecture will take place at Church House, Dean’s Yard, Great Smith St, Westminster, London SW1P 3NZ.
