Newspaper launches bid to get readers to carry out acts of kindness

A newspaper has launched a campaign aimed at getting its readers to undertake acts of kindness.

The Inverness Courier’s ‘KindNess’ campaign was launched after it carried the story of Sylvia Gilham whose severely autistic daughter hit the headlines when she was abused by a group of schoolchildren in a city supermarket.

She told the Courier how hard it can be looking after a child with additional support needs and urged people to be more kind.

The paper now hopes to highlight the unsung heroes of Inverness, as well as random acts of kindness.

Inverness Kindness

News editor Helen Aird told HTFP: “The Inverness Courier has campaigned about all sorts of things over the years, taking up the cudgels for the local community on a range of issues. It’s an important part of the role a local newspaper has and we are very proud of our campaigning record.”

She added: “We hope this campaign will will have an incredibly positive effect on the city we all call home. Being kind can have such a transformational effect on people’s lives and is such an easy thing to do.

“It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, it can be the little things that really count.

“We’ve appealed to our readers to tell us stories about unsung heroes in our communities who go that extra mile to be kind to others. But we also want to hear about random acts of kindness – whether it’s something you have done or something someone has done for you.

“We are happily shining the spotlight on every single act of kindness we hear about and are urging readers to get involved.”
