University launches new online forum for local journalists

An online forum for local journalists to share ideas and knowledge has been launched.

Cardiff University’s Centre for Community Journalism has created the forum, aimed at hyperlocal and community journalists.

The forum also features a private space where users can discuss sensitive information such as advertising rates and printing costs.

The website, which went live yesterday, can be accessed here.

Centre Manager Emma Meese said: “We are delighted to be launching the forum on our website.

“The sector is a melting pot of skills and knowledge, from promising start-ups to established and successful businesses.

“But reaching out and meeting up in person is difficult. There is no hyperlocal version of Fleet Street or the Press Club, and no village hall big enough to accommodate the 400 plus hyperlocals in the UK.

“We believe that the forum will help foster a space for innovation, and relationships – which otherwise wouldn’t be possible – to grow and thrive.”
