Local magazine rallies readers to help beautify seafront

A local monthly magazine has launched a fresh campaign to improve its patch’s seafront.

Paul Holden, editor of the Worthing Journal, has started the bid after saying he was “appalled” by neglect of the town’s promenade and pier.

Paul launched the Journal in January 2011, having previously worked for Brighton daily The Argus and edited the Worthing Sentinel.

As part of his campaign, Paul has adopted a seafront information cabinet and persuaded the local council to paint it in the colours of the Royal Sussex Regiment.

He has also asked readers to commission fused or stained glass windows for the central windbreak of the pier.

The campaign follows previous efforts by Paul to help beautify Worthing with gardening and flag projects.

Said Paul: “The council, and the town centre manager, have been very helpful and I am very grateful for their support.

“Together we can make Worthing seafront an attractive destination for thousands of daytrippers. The response from residents and visitors has been uplifting.”
