Features editor wins French travel writing award

Tim HughesA regional daily features editor has won a French travel writing award.

The Oxford Mail’s Tim Hughes, left, triumphed at the French Travel Media Awards 2017 for an article on Remembrance he wrote for the Mail’s sister weekly the Oxford Times.

For the piece, Tim visited the battlefields of Artois and the town of Arras, the capital of the Pas-de-Calais.

Tim was awarded the gong at the French Travel Media Awards ceremony last night at London’s Oxo Tower.

It is not the first time Tim has received recognition for his writing on France.

In 2014 he triumphed in the Best Newspaper Article category of the French Travel Article of the Year Awards.

His winning entry was a piece on mountain biking and other adventure sports in Les Deux Alpes, which impressed judges from the Association of British Travel Organisers to France.

At the time, Tim told HTFP: “France, and Savoie in particular, is a fabulous destination, so it was doubly gratifying to be recognised for writing about one of my favourite activities – mountain biking – in one of my favourite places – the high Alps.”
