Facebook has run a full page advertisement in local newspapers this week offering readers tips on spotting fake news.
The social networking website has run the advert over the past two days in a number of daily and weekly titles.
It offers readers 10 tips on looking for fake news – urging them to be sceptical of headlines, investigate the source and check the evidence.
They are also told to check whether the story may be a joke or parody, and to only share news they know to be credible online.
The advertisement follows the launch of the regional press industry’s Fighting Fake News campaign ahead of the General Election.
It aims to highlight the role of local newspapers in fighting the phenomenon.
The campaign is also designed to inform readers about the importance of the regional press in providing “highly trusted” journalism.
The dumbing down of society has finally happened. Doomed. All doomed.

Surely ‘It’s on Facebook’ ought to be on the list somewhere?
