A former weekly newspaper photographer is planning to take a unique photograph on top of a world-famous landmark.
Lee Thompson, formerly of The Chester Chronicle, is planning to travel to Brazil for the 360 degree ‘surroundie’ shot atop the statue of Christ the Redeemer, at the peak of Corcovado mountain, in Rio de Janeiro.
It will be Lee’s second visit to the monument, after the Brazilian tourist board granted him permission to scale it and take a ‘selfie’ when he was in the country photographing preparations for the 2014 World Cup.
The ‘surroundie’ will show all angles visible from the top of the statue.
Lee, 34, said: “I’m interested in doing anything that people aren’t doing and I love to keep people guessing how I did it.”
He added: “Photography is evolving so quickly and unless you keep up with the latest trends and technological advancements you get left behind. Being able to see the whole 360 image is as good as it gets.
“By using a selfie stick above my head I’m able to hold the Samsung Gear 360 camera as high as possible and take pictures on an app which leaves people guessing how you took it.”
‘Lensman’. Another appearance for that made-up word that no-one else ever uses.

Well have a jolly nice time Lee – but do be aware that it’s not a unique, first – there has been a 360 from the top (taken without permission) doing the rounds on Urban Exploration forums for a while.
