Dog avoids vet appointment by hiding in weekly newspaper office

A dog hid in a weekly newspaper office in a bid to avoid an appointment with the vet.

The dog, a Jack Russell Terrier, dashed into the newsroom of the Mansfield Chad yesterday morning.

Its impromptu tour of the newsroom was caught on camera by reporter Sophie Wills, who uploaded the resulting footage to Twitter.

The trespasser was later returned to its owner and later attended the veterinary appointment as scheduled.

Sophie told HTFP: “I was minding my own business in the Chad newsroom when I was visited by a fluffy intruder. I told him he was trespassing and asked him to leave but he refused to co-operate.

“Cue assorted ‘newshound’ jokes from other Johnston Press staff and the suggestion I should get it to log on to the network and do a couple of pages.

“It turns out the intrepid Jack Russell had escaped on its way to a vet’s appointment and has since been returned to its owner.

“It was a welcome interlude from the monotony of wedding anniversaries and summer fetes.”

As a former Mansfield CHAD reporter, I am appalled by the quality of the photograph as well as the compulsion to put it and the `story’ on the paper’s website. Is this really where provincial journalism has sunk to . . .? Interesting news, sport, in-depth obituaries (we used to take forms to the homes of the deceased to help them), weddings, anniversaries and local events what made the Linney-owned paper such a success.

What bothers me most is this: ““It was a welcome interlude from the monotony of wedding anniversaries and summer fetes.”

Err… that’s what sells your newspaper, not clickbait crap about “fluffy intruders”.

Ex-JP Editor, I am appalled that as a former Mansfield CHAD reporter you didn’t realise this never went on the Chad website- it was just a tweet HTFP picked up on. Bet you’re fun at parties

reporter88 – I shall be holding a house-warming party at our new home in Chesterfield – in, probably, January. You, Jeremy Plews, Tony Spitlles, Roger Grayson etc etc are vey welcome.

Please bring a decent bottle of red wine, and we can have a good chat. I would love to meet you face-to-face and talk about life.in and out of the media.- and, hopefully many more things that are stimulating and fun.
