Watch the Society of Editors conference live

Nick-Turner-335The year’s biggest media gathering kicks off this morning with Society of Editors president Nick Turner welcoming delegates to his group’s Carlisle patch.

Nick, left, is digital strategy manager of the Carlisle-based CN Group whose portfolio includes the News & Star, North West Evening Mail and Cumberland News.

The conference at Carlisle’s Halston Hotel will take place just a few hundred yards away from where flooding devastated the city in December 2015.

Today’s programme will include a session on how the media can help rebuild a community after an emergency, with News & Star editor David Helliwell among the speakers.

Before the official start of the conference at 11am, other regional editors will be staging a workshop session sharing ideas for best practice.

Those taking part include Joy Yates, editor of the Sunderland Echo and editorial director of Johnston Press North East, Evening Mail editor James Higgins, Kent Messenger editor Denise Eaton and DC Thomson head of publishing Donald Martin.

You can watch the conference via the live video stream below courtesy of Silverstream TV.  The stream will be live from 11am – 5.pm today and again from 9.15am until 12.45pm tomorrow.
