Volunteers leave talking newspaper after 70 years’ service

Volunteers working for a talking newspaper have left after more than 70 years’ service between them.

The Craven Cassette provides news from the Craven Herald and regional interest magazine Dalesman for people with sight problems across the Yorkshire Dales.

Janet Smith, Peter Horner and Marcus Catling have left the service, and the Cassette is now aiming to replace the trio with new readers.

Chairman Richard Breare said the disbanding of the team would leave a real gap which he was aiming to fill.

He told the Herald: “”I’m looking for someone with good humour around the issues that crop up in Dalesman.

“The person needs to be able to master the basics of a computer which links to the microphone for the digital recording.”

The Cassette provides an audio version of the Herald every week which is sent to listeners free of charge.
