Special supplement tells stories of ‘faces’ of daily’s patch

A regional daily has produced a special supplement telling the human stories behind a city’s “faces” as part of a campaign it is backing.

The Birmingham Mail is supporting the Love Your Neighbour Week of Kindness, which aims to get people across the city to carry out acts of kindness and get to know other people in their community better.

The initiative was set up by the Birmingham Humanists group and Bishop of Birmingham, David Urquhart.

In support, the Mail ran its 20-page ‘Faces of Brum’ supplement in yesterday’s newspaper.faces-of-brum

The pullout tells the stories of people of all backgrounds from across the city.

A similar supplement was run in the Mail’s Trinity Mirror sister daily the Hull Daily Mail earlier this year.

Mail editor Marc Reeves said: “The Birmingham Mail has been supporting the many community groups who before and after Brexit came together to underline those things in the city that unite us, and the Faces of Brum project was the next natural step.

“We wanted to go beyond the usual headlines and statistics and let people’s own stories speak for themselves.

“I think we’ve been able to capture a snapshot of what makes Birmingham a brilliant place to live through the experiences of Brummies themselves.

“The project has involved online activity, videos and social, as well as today’s 20-page supplement.”
