Sons raise almost £50,000 in memory of regional daily editor father

Jim NeilThe two sons of a regional daily editor who died in 2009 have raised almost £50,000 in his memory.

A sportsman’s dinner was hosted to remember former Paisley Daily Express editor Jim Neil, left, who died after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

The dinner has been put on annually since Jim’s death by his sons Drew and Colin, with proceeds going to Paisley’s Accord Hospice.

Among those in attendance at this year’s dinner was Alan Kennedy, a former Liverpool FC footballer who scored in two European Cup Finals.

Drew, who works as a photographer for the Express, said: “We raised £6,500 on the night and that takes our total to almost £49,000.

“Everyone has been extremely generous and we are lucky to be supported by local businesses.

“We will be back next year and we have to thank our two sponsors, Renfrewshire Cab Co and Greenhill Garage.

“Thank you to everyone for their generosity. We are always blown away by the amount of money raised every year.”
