Regional publisher unveils new technology chief

Eirik SvendsenA new head of technology has been appointed by newspaper publisher Trinity Mirror.

Eirik Svendsen, pictured left, is set to take up the newly created role of group chief technology officer, and will be responsible for all “technology and product management strategy and implementation” across the company.

Currently based in Barcelona, Eirik has been an executive at Schibsted Media Group, which is headquartered in Norway, since 2011.

The 40-year-old will report to Trinity Mirror chief executive Simon Fox and will be part of the executive team, leading the product, engineering, systems and infrastructure teams.

Said Eirik: “I’m thrilled to join Trinity Mirror at a time of rapid digital growth and I’m amazed by the current pace of transformation.

“The combination of physical products, national digital reach and a strong local footprint is the perfect base for establishing a future product portfolio fuelled by content, technology and data.

Simon added: “Trends in technology and disruption across the media landscape present significant opportunities for Trinity Mirror. Eirik’s experience is going to be invaluable as we continue our digital transformation.”

Eirik will be relocating to London before taking up his new role in July.

His career history to date has included internet-centric companies across Europe, with roles at broadcasting software company Vizrt and publishing software company Escenic, among others.
