Regional publisher takes over running of legal awards

NewsquestA regional publisher has taken over the running of a prestigious awards scheme for the legal profession.

Newsquest Scotland has announced it will be running the Law Awards of Scotland, which aims to find the country’s leading lawyers.

The company previously served as a sponsor of the event, which will next be held in the autumn.

Newspapers published by Newsquest Scotland include The Herald, Sunday Herald, Evening Times and The National, as well as more than 20 weeklies.

Managing director Graham Morrison said: “I am delighted that the Law Awards of Scotland join our stable of high-prestige events that honour the best of Scotland’s talent in business, academia and a range of other areas.

“Our superb events team are leaders in organising Scotland’s premier conferences and gala dinners, including the annual black-tie Politician of the Year competition.”

The awards were first held in 2004.

Co-founder Gordon Young said: “We were very proud of the Law Awards which was an outstanding event. We are delighted to see if move into The Herald stable where it will go from strength-to-strength.”

    There will be a handy profit in running this event, but the “country’s leading lawyers” will not be there. They will be on their yachts, flying their light aircraft or firing up the barbies in their holiday homes.
