Regional publisher acquires specialist forestry magazines

fjimageRegional newspaper publisher Newsquest has added two specialist forestry magazine to its portfolio in its latest acquisition.

Forestry Journal and essentialARB will form part of the publisher’s Scottish magazine division which already includes a number of similar publications.

Launched as Forest Machine Journal in 1994, the monthly magazine took on its present name in 2008 when it merged with Forestry and British Timber.

Quarterly title essentialARB magazine was launched in the same year and is aimed at those engaged in arboriculture and tree care – tree surgeons, utility arborists, tree officers and consultants.

The two publications will form part of Newsquest’s Scottish magazine portfolio alongside The Scottish Farmer, Country Lifestyle Scotland, Scottish Walks, Scottish Cycling, Scottish Gardener, Family Focus Scotland, Scottish Mountaineer and High Flyer.

Newsquest chief executive Henry Faure Walker said: “The Forestry Journal business is a great fit for our Scottish magazine business, based in Glasgow, and I am delighted to welcome this niche acquisition to the Newsquest publishing portfolio.”

Darren Bruce, Publisher, Newsquest Scottish Magazines, added: “Forestry Journal and its sister publication, essentialARB, are highly informative specialist magazines which super serve their sectors and as we bring these titles into our stable we can further invest to develop these multi-media brands for opportunity and growth.”

The previous owner, Mark Andrews, will remain with the business throughout 2017 along with the rest of the magazines’ existing team.
