Regional daily relaunches with new ‘crisp, clear format’

A regional daily has relaunched with a “crisp, clear format” which it claims will make it easier to read.

The revamped Huddersfield Daily Examiner came out for the first time yesterday – with new features including a “news grid” on page two offering bitesize chunks of news which has broken across the town since the previous day’s edition.

Regular What’s On guides also appear, with each day’s edition covering a different topic – theatre, family and kids, music, food and drink and weekends.

The Trinity Mirror-owned Examiner’s cover price remains at 70p.

Head of content Andrew Hirst said: “The redesign follows similar redesigns on sister Trinity Mirror titles such as the Manchester Evening News.

“It gives the paper a crisp, clear format that’s eye-catching and easy to read. We now use just 3 main news templates of 400 words, 200 words and 125 words plus scope for larger news features.”

He added: “Our ever popular columnists are still there on revamped pages and the letters page has been given an upgrade too.

“Early days but so far I’ve not had any negative comments from readers and they are usually quick to let us know what they think.”
