Regional daily marks air disaster anniversary with week-long coverage

The families of an air disaster’s victims have spoken to a regional daily as the anniversary of the tragedy approaches.

The Argus, Brighton, is running stories every day this week to mark a year since the Shoreham airshow crash, which killed 11 people.

The Argus is remembering the disaster with a focus on the victims, the loved ones they left behind, the crash investigation and the legacy.

It launched its week-long coverage in Monday’s edition, pictured below, with an interview with the parents of Matt Jones, who spoke of their anger at still not knowing why their son was killed and not having received an apology.

Yesterday’s issue featured an interview with the fiancée of Mark Trussler, who told of her torment of having to prove her three daughters were Mark’s children because the couple were not yet married.

Today’s, pictured below, Thursday’s and Friday’s editions will also feature interviews with the relatives or friends of those who tragically lost their lives.

On Saturday, The Argus will be publishing a Shoreham Airshow disaster special edition covering the memorial events taking place over the weekend and on Monday live as they happen online and in print.

Head of Content Lucy Pearce said: “The Shoreham Airshow disaster was without a doubt one of the darkest days in Sussex’s history.

“It is important that as the local newspaper we honour those who were killed by paying tribute to them by speaking to those who knew and loved them the most.

“We are dedicating a section each day to the memorial events taking place across the county and updating our readers on the investigation.

“Hopefully our coverage will come across as we intend it – with the families of the victims at the forefront of our minds.”
