Regional daily launches bid to sign up 2,016 new organ donors in 2016

A bid to sign up 2,016 new organ donors in 2016 has been launched by a regional daily.

The Lancashire Evening Post has launched its Lancashire: Giving the gift of life campaign, which aims to get new donors on its patch to sign up throughout the year.

The drive was announced on yesterday’s front page, pictured below, accompanied by the story of nine-year-old Jack Johnstone.

Jack, from Hoghton, near Preston, received a double lung transplant a few weeks ago after suffering from cystic fibrosis all his life.

Editor Gillian Parkinson said: “We hope the people of Lancashire will support this appeal to help save lives.

“All of us have the opportunity to give someone else the chance to live after our death.

“The people of Lancashire are known for their generosity and I would urge everyone to sign up today.”

Similar campaigns have been launched in recent years by newspapers including The Chronicle, Newcastle, Southern Daily Echo and Yorkshire Evening Post.
