Editor pays tribute to long-time photographic contributor

Douglas McDonaldAn amateur photographer whose pictures graced a regional daily’s pages over many years has died aged 79.

Tributes have been paid to Douglas Macdonald, left, whose photographs were regularly featured in the Nottingham Post.

His shots often featured scenes from his travels around Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

A native of the Isle of Mull, he had originally moved to Nottinghamshire in the early 1970s to teach PE.

Post editor Mike Sassi said: “We’re always very proud to be of service to our loyal readers and contributors and, over the years, Douglas MacDonald was one of our most loyal.

“We greatly appreciated his submissions to the Post and he will be sadly missed.”

Paul Curtis, Douglas’s friend of 18 years, said at his funeral: “Douglas was a very well-respected man and it was good to see so many people turn out to say goodbye.

“We said farewell to him and I hope we will meet again for the photo shoot in Heaven. It was a good chance for us all to say thanks to him for everything.

“His popularity and very varied interests and involvement was reflected in the music, poetry and eulogies at his funeral.”

Douglas was cremated at Bramcote Crematorium in Nottingham last week and his family in Scotland will receive his ashes.
