Readers to help design regional daily’s ‘perfect’ football app

Readers are being asked to help a regional daily design a “perfect” app for football fans on its patch.

The Manchester Evening News is currently designing an app for supporters of Manchester United, with a two week-long consultation currently under way.

A campaign targeting the MEN’s five million followers of its United-related social media channels began yesterday, and a survey asking fans what they would like to feature on the app is currently available on the newspaper’s website.

Those taking part could win a home entertainment and sports package worth £1,000.

The app will then be developed by the MEN’s football writers, supported by Trinity Mirror’s in-house digital product team.

It is understood TM could look at developing similar apps for other clubs and regional titles in future.

Rob Irvine, MEN editor-in-chief, said: “We’ve built a huge audience of loyal, local Manchester United fans by putting them at the heart of what we do.

“Our process for creating this standalone fan app follows the same spirit of engagement. We want fans to tell us what content they want, when they want it and how they want it.”

Alice McKeegan, the paper’s head of football, added: “Manchester United matters to millions of supporters around the world and what those millions of supporters feel about Manchester United matters to us.

“We are really keen to hear the views of fans so we can give them the type of content they want and ensure that the app enhances their supporting experience.”
